Had to stop by the local retail giant tonight to grab some snacks for the poker game, and big shock, had to look at the card aisle, and even though I was at a different location of the same giant retailer, not much caught my eye–at least football wise.
But baseball wise, I’ve been fighting the temptation to grab a box of the 2007 Bowman Draft Picks & Prospects for some time now–I think part of it has to do with the name (Draft Picks & Prospects is one of my favortite football sets), and part of it is my prospecting nature. So I gave into tempation.
Oh, and I bought another one of those #$%^&* tins of mixed football too.
I’m definitely done with those tins for a while–at least until I can unload the actual tins on someone. Not much to report on there–another complete set that had some ok cards, but it was a ’99 Collector’s Edge rookie set, so there was the McNabb, Edgerrin James, Culpepper, etc. That and a Troy Aikman card were the only hits.
But the baseball box was at a minimum decent. Opened the first pack, and Joba Chamberlain was staring back at me, and also got a Clay Buchholz in the pack. Second pack had a Michael Moutsakis Chrome Refractor (and a Carlos Gomez, which isn’t all that special, other than he’s the guy my Twins got in the Johan Santana deal), and the third pack had a chrome Jacoby Ellsbury Futures Game card. After that it toned down quite a bit, although there were a few minor pulls, including a Phil Hughes chrome card.
While I’m thinking about this, I have gotten a couple emails this week regarding trading cards with people, which I’m totally up for–that’s actually one of the reasons for this post, is so people are aware that I’m happy to talk trade, and that I do have some baseball cards too (and a few basketball cards from late 90’s early 00’s, and would love to get rid of all of them). And I thought Joba, Hughes, Buccholz and Ellsbury might spark a few people’s interest.
I’m working on putting together some wantlists for football AND baseball (I’m actually thinking of starting some sort of baseball blog, too, if I can figure out an angle), and hope to get them posted this weekend. Long story short–the main set I’m mildly trying to complete right now is a 2007 Bowman Chrome Refractors Football set, and I have a fair interest in Viking rookie/memorabilia/autograph cards, Twins rookie/memorabilia/autograph cards, and a few specific players.
Now hopefully I can win some money tonight playing cards, and hopefully my local card shop will be on schedule to open their new store tomorrow…
